The Getty is a bagelry located on Islington St in Portsmouth, NH, connecting the west end to downtown in an old gas station. Our goal is to make the best product in a very narrow category. Our bagels use a three-day process, starting with a biga, then a bulk ferment, and finally a bake. We want our sandwich process and design to have the same level of care as we put into the bagel itself.

We are looking for a Chef eager to take over our nascent savory department and make it truly something special.

About the Role

This role sits at the intersection of creativity and consistency. You’ll develop, test, and refine breakfast and lunch offerings that build on our existing menu — from house-made schmears, condiments, composed sandwiches, and more that define what The Getty is beyond breakfast.

You’ll work closely with the bakers and the founding team to:

  • Expected to uphold and maintain all existing menu items to established standards.
  • Develop new menu items for daily service and seasonal rotations.
  • Build prep systems and recipes that scale without losing quality.
  • Source, test, and evaluate local ingredients and suppliers.
  • Manage kitchen flow and ensure food safety and consistency.
  • Help train and lead a small, tight-knit crew as we expand service hours.
  • Prior exposure to fermented dough production is preferred

About You

  • You’ve worked in a professional kitchen 1 year minimum.
  • You think about balance, texture, and acid as much as presentation.
  • You can move from R&D to prep to service without skipping a beat.
  • You like systems, but you’re also the kind of person who will tweak a pickle brine until it’s perfect.
  • You care about community, good food, and a kitchen culture built on respect and curiosity.
